Summary
Trine University, located in Angola, Indiana, is a private, non-profit institution known for its commitment to innovation and student-centered learning. Seeking a trusted systems integrator, the university aimed to enhance two newly developed facilities with advanced audio-visual solutions. The first, Thunder Ice Arena, is a NCAA- and ADA-compliant ice rink that required a robust, high-performance sound system along with remote streaming capabilities. The second, the MTI Center, a 74,840-square-foot hub for athletics and events, serves multiple programs including basketball, bowling, E-sports, and fitness, as well as alumni and academic functions. Each facility demanded customised, future-ready solutions to support a broad range of campus needs.
Challenge
Trine University needed to identify a partner capable of delivering scalable, high-quality AV and streaming solutions for two complex and multifunctional facilities without compromising on design intent, performance, or budget.
Solution
The university partnered with New Era Technology to deliver integrated AV systems tailored to each venue. This included a full-featured sound system at Thunder Ice Arena and comprehensive AV and streaming infrastructure at the MTI Center, executed under tight timelines and aligned with institutional goals.
Process
New Era assembled a multidisciplinary team to translate Trine’s vision from early-stage concepts into executable plans. Through collaborative planning sessions and on-site evaluations, New Era’s Technology AV integration ensured the technology would serve both student users and university operations long term. Of particular importance was the MTI Center’s live streaming platform, which was designed for intuitive operation, allowing even non-technical users to confidently manage broadcasts.
“To have a live streaming system so thoughtfully designed that it becomes intuitive for any user to control it is remarkable. New Era took our vision and designed a system that has created real-world experiences for our students. It’s been a huge success story on campus, and it runs on the backbone of the design and expertise.”
Outcome
The successful implementation has transformed both the Thunder Ice Arena sound system and the MTI Center AV streaming facilities into dynamic, community-focused spaces. The live streaming system, in particular, has become a cornerstone of campus engagement. Leveraging New Era’s design, Trine launched the Trine Broadcasting Network; an initiative integrated directly into the university’s Communications curriculum. Students now gain practical experience operating industry-standard equipment, better preparing them for careers in media, sports, and technology. The partnership not only met the technical requirements but also created an Intuitive streaming platform for campus users, as well as an enduring academic asset aligned with Trine’s long-term mission.
